    AN ACT concerning local government.

 
    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 
represented in the General Assembly: 

 
    Section 5. The Counties Code is amended  by adding Section 
5-25026 as follows:
 
    (55 ILCS 5/5-25026 new)

    Sec. 5-25026. Locally grown foods. Except in emergency 
situations, including but not limited to a food-borne disease 
outbreak, the board of health of a county or multi-county 
health department may not discourage the purchase or 
consumption of locally grown foods in relation to foods that 
are not locally grown.
 

    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
becoming law.
