(WIRSING-LAWFER-NOVAK)

   410 ILCS 605/1            from Ch. 8, par. 106                              

        Amends the Animals Intended for Food Act.  Adds a caption to  the      
   provision concerning inspections.                                           
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
          Deletes reference to:                                                
          410 ILCS 605/1                                                       
          Adds reference to:                                                   
          225 ILCS 650/5                  from Ch. 56 1/2, par. 305            
        Deletes everything.  Amends the Meat and Poultry Inspection  Act.      
   Provides  that  poultry  raisers who slaughter, eviscerate, or further      
   process 5,000 or fewer poultry during the calendar year for which  the      
   exemption  is  being determined are exempt from the Act with regard to      
   the poultry raised on their own farms or premises. (The exemption  now      
   applies  to  poultry  raisers  who  slaughter,  eviscerate, or further      
   process 1,000 or fewer poultry during the applicable  calendar  year.)      
   Provides  that  the  Director  and  any  employee of the Department of      
   Agriculture, in the performance of their duties under  the  Act,  have      
   the  power  to  call  on  law  enforcement  officers and city and town      
   officials to assist  in  carrying  out  the  provisions  of  the  Act.      
   Provides  that the Director and employees of the Department shall have      
   the same powers as other peace officers in carrying out the provisions      
   of the Act.  Provides that it is unlawful for a peace officer to  fail      
   or  refuse  to  enforce  the  lawful  orders  and  quarantine  of  the      
   Department.                                                                 
        CONFERENCE COMMITTEE REPORT NO. 1.                                     
        Recommends that the Senate concur in H-am 1.                           
        Recommends that the bill be further amended as follows:                
        Deletes the amendatory provisions  granting  the   Director   and      
   any   employee of the Department of Agriculture, in the performance of      
   their  duties  under   the   Act,  the   power   to   call   on    law      
   enforcement   officers  and  city  and  town  officials  to assist  in      
   carrying  out  the  provisions  of  the  Act and granting the Director      
   and employees of  the  Department  the  same  powers  as  other  peace      
   officers in carrying out the provisions of the Act.
