1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The goal of The Salvation Army Tri-County Senior
3 Nutrition Program is to ensure that healthy seniors remain
4 healthy and that ailing seniors regain their health through
5 nutritionally-balanced meals; and
6 WHEREAS, Funding for Senior Nutrition programs was added
7 to the Older Americans Act in 1972; and
8 WHEREAS, The Meals on Wheels Association of America has
9 designated March of each year as time to celebrate this
10 senior nutrition funding; and
11 WHEREAS, The Salvation Army Golden Diners Program has
12 been providing meals for people age 60 and over since 1974;
13 the Salvation Army Golden Diners Program currently has 18
14 sites located throughout Kane, Kendall, and McHenry Counties,
15 serving more than 1,200 meals each weekday, with more than
16 800 of them being delivered to homebound elderly; and
17 WHEREAS, Over 750 volunteers help to serve, portion, and
18 deliver these meals; and
19 WHEREAS, The Salvation Army Golden Diners Tri-County
20 Senior Nutrition Program is participating in the Meals on
21 Wheels Association of America "March for Meals" during the
22 week of March 17 through March 21; therefore, be it
23 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25 we proclaim the week of March 17, 2003 as The Salvation Army
26 Golden Diners Tri-County Senior Nutrition Week in the State
27 of Illinois; and be it further
28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to the Salvation Army Golden Diners Program leaders
30 as a token of our respect and esteem for their efforts on

1 behalf of the health of senior citizens in Kane, Kendall, and
2 McHenry Counties.
