2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Sophia Shaw on the |
4 | | occasion of her retirement as President and CEO of the Chicago |
5 | | Botanic Gardens; and

6 | | WHEREAS, Sophia Shaw served as the Chicago Botanic Gardens' |
7 | | President and CEO for eight years; in that time, she has |
8 | | developed the Chicago Botanic Gardens into one of the truly |
9 | | great botanic gardens and plant conservation science centers in |
10 | | the world; and

11 | | WHEREAS, During Sophia Shaw's tenure, the Chicago Botanic |
12 | | Gardens opened the Gold LEED-rated 38,000 square-foot Daniel F. |
13 | | and Ada L. Rice Plant Conservation Science Center, the Trellis |
14 | | Bridge, the Bernice E. Lavin Plant Evaluation Garden, the |
15 | | Grunsfeld Children's Growing Garden, the Butterflies and |
16 | | Blooms exhibit, and the Kleinman Family Cove; renovated the |
17 | | Garden View Cafe and Plant Information Service; completed the |
18 | | North Lake shoreline restoration and the 1.3-mile North Branch |
19 | | multi-use trail addition; and planned and broke ground for the |
20 | | Regenstein Foundation Learning Campus building and garden; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Under Sophia Shaw's leadership, the Chicago |
22 | | Botanic Gardens experienced a 52% increase in attendance, six |
