HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are
3saddened to learn of the death of South Beloit Mayor Michael M.
4Duffy, who passed away on June 20, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy was born on April 10, 1946 in Pontiac
6to Martin and Helen (nee Clark) Duffy; he was a graduate of
7Pontiac Township High School and went on to receive his degrees
8from Illinois State University and the University of Illinois;
9he was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Air
10Force; he married Lori Olson-Coolidge on June 29, 2001 in St.
11Peter Church in South Beloit; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy was the former Superintendent of
13Schools for South Beloit School District #320 and was currently
14the Superintendent of Schools for Durand School District #322;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy was elected mayor of South Beloit in
172011; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy was on the board of directors for the
19Rock Energy Co-op and a board member of the Stateline Boys and
20Girls Club as well as many other organizations; he was also a
21member of South Beloit American Legion Holtz-Hirst Post #288,

1the South Beloit Businessman's Association, the Beloit 20/20
2Club, the Northern Illinois Rotary Club, the Illinois Municipal
3League, the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce, the Northern
4Illinois Mayors Association, Greater Rockford Economics
5Development Groups, the South Beloit Health Advisory
6Committee, and Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy was preceded in death by his parents;
8brother, Roger Duffy; and brother-in-law, Michael Kilmer; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mayor Duffy is survived by his wife, Lori Duffy;
10children, Erin (Michael) Duffy Jensen, Megan Duffy, Ryan Duffy,
11Cyle Coolidge, and Kelsey (Andrew) Mix; granddaughter, McKenna
12Jensen; brother, Paul (Carol) Duffy; sister, Ann Duffy;
13sisters-in-law, Patty Duffy and Lisa Kilmer; and numerous
14nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn the passing of South Beloit Mayor Michael M. Duffy,
18and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and
19all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Mayor Duffy as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
