SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Valentine G. Lazzaretto of Lake Forest,
4who passed away on October 21, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto was born on August 4, 1924,
6in Centerville, Iowa; his parents were George and Marghreta
7(Cora) Lazzaretto; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto began working in the Iowa
9coalmines at the age of 16; he subsequently enlisted in the
10United States Army; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto was a decorated World War II
12veteran; he fought in the battles of Leyte Gulf and Okinawa and
13received 3 Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star with clusters; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto served as the President and
15Business Manager of Laborers Local #152 in Highland Park; he
16also served as Vice-President of the Lake County Building
17Trades, Trustee of the Laborers Pension Fund, Executive Board
18Member of the Laborers District Council, and Trustee of the
19Chicagoland Laborers Training Fund; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto was a member of Highland Park

1Moose Lodge, where he founded the Highland Park Moose Men's
2Hunting Club; he was also a member of the National Rifle
3Association, the Highwood Bocce Ball Club, the Highwood VFW and
4American Legion, the Lake Forest chapter of the Knights of
5Columbus, and the Church of Saint Mary in Lake Forest; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto enjoyed traveling and
7watching the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto is preceded in death by his
9wife of 50 years, Mary; his sisters, Mary (Albino) Dal Ponte
10and Rose (Martin) Tagliapietra; and his brother, Joe (Roseanne)
11Lazzaretto; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Valentine Lazzaretto is survived by his son,
13Vallie G. (Susan) Lazzaretto; his daughter, Dora Lazzaretto;
14his brother, John (Angie) Lazzaretto; his sister, Jennie (the
15late Angelo) Maddalon; and his many nieces and nephews;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19his family and friends, the passing of Valentine G. Lazzaretto;
20and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
