SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jack Smith of Waukegan, who passed away
4on July 8, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Smith was born in Lossiemouth, Scotland; he
6and his family came to the United States when he was 8 years
7old; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jack Smith graduated from Waukegan Township High
9School; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jack Smith spent his entire career working at
11Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago; he served ABT faithfully
12as a department manager and time study engineer for 38 years;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Upon retiring at the age of 55, Jack Smith enjoyed
15golfing often at his second Waukegan home, Bonnie Brook Golf
16Course; at Bonnie Brook, he was instrumental in the creation of
17"the pond" on hole 3; he developed real estate in multiple
18Waukegan subdivisions with specific work in Heather Heights,
19where he named a street after his daughter, Jacquelyn; he spent
20many years serving the Waukegan community as a city official,
21City Treasurer, Alderman, Park Board member and Port Authority

1official, and served as President of the Lake County Crippled
2Children's Clinic for 35 years; he was also a member of the
3Scottish Rite and the Shriners; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jack Smith was a lifelong fan of the Chicago White
5Sox; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jack Smith was preceded in death by his parents,
7James and Margaret Smith; his beloved wife, Virginia; his
8sister, Ishbel Rogers; and his in-laws, Frank and Anne
9Kuzmickus; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jack Smith is survived by his daughter, Jacquelyn
11Couvall; his son in-law, George Couvall; his grandson, George
12J. Couvall (Jenny); his great-grandsons, Georgie and Billy; his
13sister, Jean Soderquist; and his many nieces and nephews;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17his family and friends, the passing of Jack Smith; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Jack Smith as an expression of our
21sympathy.
