SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jennie J. Zabukovec of Waukegan, who
4passed away on June 5, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born on December 18, 1928, in North
6Chicago, to Joseph and Johanna Zalaznik; she graduated from
7Waukegan Township High School in 1946; she was a member of the
8History Club; and
 
9    WHEREAS, She worked for Great Lakes Naval Training Center
10before and after the birth of her children; she worked as a
11secretary for the Chaplain Service during the Vietnam War, and
12was instrumental in providing letters and food for the soldiers
13and injured veterans at Great Lakes Naval Hospital; she also
14worked for Fiscal Service as an Accounting Clerk; she retired
15from the Naval Training Center, and then worked as a lunchroom
16supervisor for the Waukegan School System; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Her faith guided her throughout her life; she was
18a member of Mother of God Church, where she and her husband
19co-chaired dinner dances; as a member of St. Dismas Parish, she
20was actively involved with the Women's Club, funeral lunches,
21crafts for the bazaars, and the rummage sales; she was honored
22as the 2002 Woman of the Year for the St. Dismas Women's Club;

2    WHEREAS, She was a member of the Slovenic National Home
3Society and St. Joseph's KSKJ Lodge 53; she played basketball
4in many KSKJ tournaments; she had a great love of family, the
5church, crocheting, crafts, gardening, baking, and cooking;
6her kitchen table was always surrounded by friends and family,
7and full of wonderful food and drink; she was a second mother
8to many, and she was a great friend; and
 
9    WHEREAS, She carried on many Slovenian traditions and
10passed along her secret recipes; in 2011, she traveled with
11family to the birthplace of her parents; she enjoyed following
12the Cubs with her husband in their personal Sky Box, and she
13loved to sing and dance, especially polkas and the Chicken
14Dance; and
 
15    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her beloved husband
16of over 62 years, John Zabukovec; her parents, Joseph and
17Johanna Zalaznik; her sisters-in-law, Mildred Terchek and
18Alice Pasiewicz; and her brothers-in-law, Edward Pasiewicz and
19John Terchek; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jennie Zabukovec is survived by her daughters,
21Jamie Zabukovec (Larry Thompson), Judy Derra, Janice (Richard)
22Davis, and Julie Zabukovec (Rob McKay); she will be dearly

1missed by her grandchildren, Tesia Derra (Agim Alijoski) and
2Meredith and John Tanner Davis; as well as her
3great-grandchildren, Adelina, Bekim, and Lule Alijoski; she is
4also survived by her brother, Fred (Marie) Zalaznik, and her
5sister-in-law, MaryAnne (Albert) Gilbert; she was loved by many
6nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, Janet
7(Marty) Anderson, Larry (Debbie), Gerry, and John Zalaznik,
8Joan (Bill) Marsh, Eddie (Gail) Pasiewicz, Geri Gilbert, Bill
9(Jeannie) Marsh, Theresa (John) Brouillard, Michael, Lindy,
10Eric, Torie, and Alex Pasiewicz; and many other relatives;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14her family and friends, the passing of Jennie Zabukovec; and be
15it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Jennie Zabukovec as a symbol of our
18sincere sympathy.
