2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Robert L. Jensen, known as the Downers | ||||||
4 | Grove Village Historian Extraordinaire, World Traveler, and | ||||||
5 | Adventurer, who passed away on March 23, 2012; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, He was born in Hinsdale to Albert and Alice | ||||||
7 | (Sanijster) Jensen of Downers Grove; he spent his youth in | ||||||
8 | Downers Grove, graduating from Downers Grove North High School | ||||||
9 | in 1948, at which point he went to work for Illinois Bell | ||||||
10 | Telephone Company as an installer-repairman, retiring after 34 | ||||||
11 | years; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, During the Korean War he enlisted in the Air | ||||||
13 | Force, was shipped overseas to Japan, then sent to Korea; | ||||||
14 | following a furlough, he was stationed in Greenville, South | ||||||
15 | Carolina, at Donaldson Air Force Base; upon his discharge in | ||||||
16 | December 1954 he built a home and settled in Downers Grove; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, He enjoyed building many HO gauge model railroads; | ||||||
18 | his latest project included building an amusement park with | ||||||
19 | rides and refreshment stands in the vicinity of the tracks; he | ||||||
20 | also worked tirelessly for the Indian Boundary YMCA, and helped | ||||||
21 | to sell Christmas trees on many sub-zero days over the last 30 | ||||||
22 | years; and |

1 | WHEREAS, First Presbyterian Church of Downers Grove, his | ||||||
2 | church, and which the Jensen family helped to start, was | ||||||
3 | another area where he was in his own element of building and | ||||||
4 | creating many projects that were needed by the church ministry; | ||||||
5 | he was known to be "on call" and worked very hard for the young | ||||||
6 | people of the YMCA and the First Presbyterian Church; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, After his retirement he had the distinct pleasure | ||||||
8 | to take 3 trips around the world; he was also fortunate enough | ||||||
9 | to have had the opportunity to visit over 140 foreign | ||||||
10 | countries; his main love continued to be talking with others | ||||||
11 | individually or on tours about his home town of Downers Grove | ||||||
12 | and the Sears Homes that he discovered were built in the area; | ||||||
13 | and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, He earned the title given to him (unofficially) as | ||||||
15 | Downers Grove's Historian Extraordinaire, as he continually | ||||||
16 | researched information on the town's history; and

17 | WHEREAS, Robert Jensen is survived by his children, Frances | ||||||
18 | Farmer Luczak (Don); Neal Lenius Jensen (Monica); his | ||||||
19 | grandchildren, Tyler Luczak and Tyler Jensen; his cousins, | ||||||
20 | Carol Ann McHaley (Joe) and Patricia Eisenstraut (Rudy); and | ||||||
21 | numerous other relatives; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
3 | his family and friends, the passing of Robert Jensen; and be it | ||||||
4 | further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Robert Jensen as a symbol of our | ||||||
7 | sincere sympathy.
