SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marshall Rosenthal; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Marshall Rosenthal was born in the Chicago Housing
5Authority's Jane Addams Homes; he grew up on the old West Side
6and attended Roosevelt High School; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Marshall Rosenthal earned his bachelor's degree
8from DePaul University and his MBA from Michigan State
9University; he was teaching at UCLA and had almost completed
10his Ph.D. in finance at Michigan State when he decided to
11pursue a career in journalism; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Marshall Rosenthal was employed as the chief arts
13and amusements writer for the Chicago Daily News; he
14free-lanced for the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Tribune, and
15the Reader, where he originated the Hot Type media column; he
16worked as a producer and writer for WMAQ-TV and WBBM-TV and won
172 local Emmys for investigative reporting and spot news; he
18later handled communications for the Illinois Department of
19Commerce and Community Affairs, Evanston/Skokie School
20District 65, and the Golden Apple Foundation; he also worked as
21the Chicago writer for Rolling Stone magazine; and

1    WHEREAS, Marshall Rosenthal is survived by his daughter,
2Alisa; his son, Daniel; and his brother, Jerome; therefore, be
3it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6his family and friends, the passing of Marshall Rosenthal; and
7be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Marshall Rosenthal as an expression
10of our sympathy.
