SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Fred Walker Robbins of Edwardsville, who
4passed away on July 1, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born March 11, 1943 in Martinsville,
6Virginia, the son of Fred Michael and Mary Walker (Ford)
7Robbins; on June 5, 1965, he married Stephanie Laird (Malinoff)
8Robbins; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was a professor of English at Southern Illinois
10University at Edwardsville from 1970 to 2001; while on the
11faculty, he served as editor of the SIUE literary magazine
12Sou'wester; he earned his Ph.D in English from the University
13of Texas at Austin in 1970 and his Bachelor of arts degree from
14Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1965; and
 
15    WHEREAS, He was an avid upland game hunter and trout
16fisherman, and spent much of his free time hunting game birds
17in Illinois' State parks, with frequent expeditions to
18Michigan, Mississippi, and elsewhere; he took pride in the 5
19Brittanies he raised for bird hunting, especially his first
20dog, Belle, and his last dog, Vicky; and
 
21    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and by

1his brother, Peter Ford Robbins; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Fred Robbins is survived by his wife, Stephanie;
3his children, Jefferson Robbins and Miranda Robbins; his
4brother, Cecil Hunt Robbins; and 4 grandchildren; therefore, be
5it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8his family and friends, the passing of Fred Robbins; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Fred Robbins as a symbol of our
12sincere sympathy.
