SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bertha "Boots" Harrison of Alton, who
4passed away on April 27, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born December 24, 1935, to the union of
6Milton and Dorothy (Hawkins) Stewart in Jersey County; Boots,
7as she was affectionately called, attended and graduated from
8the Jerseyville public schools; and
 
9    WHEREAS, In July 1955, the former Ms. Stewart married
10Walter "Bubble" Harrison Sr.; Mrs. Harrison was employed for
11John Olin as a day worker, the Madison County Court House as an
12elevator operator, and the Madison County Juvenile Detention
13Center, retiring in 1993; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Sister Bertha received Christ at an early age and
15was baptized at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the
16late Pastor William Binford; she was a lifelong member of the
17church and served as matron, mass choir member, and worked on
18the kitchen committee; Boots also was faithful member of the
19Merry Hearts; and
 
20    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; parents;
21her brother, William Stewart; and her granddaughter, Zariah

1Harrison; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Celebrating the lasting legacy of Mrs. Bertha L.
3Harrison are her sons, Robert (Suzanne), Steven, Pastor Gregory
4(Eddie Mae), and Walter "Juney" (Cookie) Jr.; her special
5daughter-in-law, Theresa Harrison; her 13 grandchildren; her
630 great-grandchildren; her 3 great-great-grandchildren; her
7sisters, Loretta (Gerald) Hutchinson and Marie (Rick) Stewart;
8her brother, Kenneth Stewart; her special cousins, James
9(Claudette) Day, Delores "Faye"(Richard) Hutchinson, and Dave
10(Vivian) Greer; her good friend, Anna Mae Lewis; and a host of
11nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14her family and friends, the passing of Bertha "Boots" Harrison;
15and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Bertha "Boots" Harrison as a symbol
18of our sincere sympathy.
