HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The family, serving as the primary source of love,
3identity, self-esteem, and support, is the very foundation of
4our communities and our State; and
 
5    WHEREAS, In Illinois, there are 15,000 children and youth
6in foster care being provided with a safe, secure, and stable
7home along with the compassion and nurture of a foster family;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Foster families, who open their homes and hearts
10and offer help to children whose families are in crisis, play a
11vital role helping children and families heal and reconnect and
12launching children into successful adulthood; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dedicated foster families frequently adopt foster
14children, resulting in a greater need for more foster families;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, There are numerous individuals and public and
17private organizations who work to increase public awareness of
18the needs of children in and leaving foster care as well as the
19enduring and valuable contribution of foster parents; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The foster care "system" is only as good as those

1who choose to be a part of it; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we proclaim May as Foster Care Month in the State of Illinois
5and urge all citizens to come forward and do something positive
6that will help change a lifetime for children and youth in
7foster care.
