HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Mrs. Lourdes F. Díaz was born on the 13th day of
3February in the year nineteen hundred and sixty one in the
4great City of Chicago, being as such a proud daughter of our
5State's largest metropolis; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mrs. Díaz's parents, Mr. Frank Diaz and Mrs.
7Aurelia Claudio, emigrated to the United States from the island
8of Puerto Rico during the 1950s, settled in Chicago, married
9and had four children in the city's ethnic milieu, both in
10Pilsen as well as the Northeast Side; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Diaz-Claudio family are fine, long-standing
12citizens of our State and have contributed to our common
13well-being with their hard work and outstanding citizenship,
14embodying and enriching one of the great pillars of our
15country: the coming together of people from every corner of the
16planet into a single, thriving America; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mrs. Lourdes Diaz has carried on that tradition in
18her own life and work, having graduated with distinction from
19Holy Family High School and Loyola University in Chicago,
20moving on to a successful career in banking, real estate, and
21diversity in several cities and companies across the United
22States, and building her own family of four with husband Juan

1Carlos Diaz, son Franco, and daughter Briana; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Mrs. Diaz has become known as an exemplary woman
3and Hispanic executive, using her position in the corporate
4world to promote and create boundless opportunities and full
5equality for women and Hispanics in business and society; and
 
6    WHEREAS, To achieve this high and noble objective, Mrs.
7Diaz has joined numerous civic and business organizations and
8has been recognized by the media for outstanding results in her
9advocacy and her work; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In her current capacity as Vice President of
11Diversity Relations for the Sodexo Corporation in Washington,
12D.C., Mrs. Diaz leads a unique, pioneering and laudable
13outreach effort aimed at women, minority, LGBT, and other
14minority business suppliers in the City of Chicago, as well as
15minority and community organizations in the city, with the
16intent of integrating them all into Sodexo's growth, and thus
17provide opportunities for them to prosper and fulfill the true
18calling of the American Dream; and
 
19    WHEREAS, As she turns 50, Mrs. Diaz looks ahead to an even
20bigger and brighter role in her endless determination to
21achieve proportional growth and prosperity for women,
22Hispanics, and other minorities in our great land, all the

1while delivering significant value and results to the entities
2in which she works, be they corporate or non-profit; therefore,
3be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate Mrs. Lourdes Diaz on her 50th birthday; and be
7it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Mrs. Lourdes Diaz as a symbol of our respect and
10esteem.
