SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the passing of Illinois National Guard Sergeant
4 Schuyler Brent Patch of Galva, who died while serving in
5 Kandahar, Afghanistan on February 24, 2009; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born February 17, 1984, in Kewanee, the son
7 of John Lang Patch and Colleen Diane (Gorey) Stevens; he
8 graduated from Wethersfield High School in 2002; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He joined the Oklahoma National Guard in March
10 2005 and transferred to the Illinois National Guard in November
11 2007; he was attached to the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team;
12 and
 
13     WHEREAS, He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing
14 Texas hold-em, and going to concerts; he also enjoyed spending
15 time with his friends, and family, and going to Mission Beach,
16 California; he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed the
17 outdoors; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Schuyler was preceded in death by his
19 great-grandparents, Clyde and Melba Lang, Wilbur and Esther
20 Patch, Dean and Lucille Gorey, and Arvel and Emily Petty; and
21 many other loved ones and fallen brothers in arms; and

1     WHEREAS, Sergeant Schuyler Patch is survived by his father,
2 John and Amy Patch; his mother, Colleen and Rick Stevens; his
3 sister, Amber Patch Troxell and her husband, Brandon; his
4 brothers, Seth Patch and Garrett Patch; his stepbrothers, Zach
5 and Blake Stevens; his paternal grandparents, Dan and Joan
6 Patch; his maternal grandparents, David Gorey and Mary Gorey;
7 and his nephews, Logan and Cole Troxell; his aunts and uncles,
8 David and Kathy Patch, Jeff Patch, Jeff and Lori (Patch)
9 Martin, Curtis Gorey, David and Trudy Gorey, James and Pam
10 (Gorey) Fairchild, and Kevin and Theresa Gorey; and his
11 fiancee, Amber Spaniel; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14 his friends and family, the passing of Sergeant Schuyler Patch;
15 and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sergeant Schuyler
17 Patch and his willingness to serve his country, which led to
18 him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of Sergeant Schuyler Patch as a symbol
21 of our sympathy and respect.
