SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-684 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for issuance of Operation Iraqi Freedom license plates, at an additional initial charge of $15 with eligibility requirements to be determined by the Secretary of State. Provides that the design, color, and format of the plates is wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. Provides that the $15 additional initial charge shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-684 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-684 new)
7     Sec. 3-684. Operation Iraqi Freedom License Plates.
8     (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
9 Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications
10 made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may
11 issue Operation Iraqi Freedom license plates to residents of
12 Illinois who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the
13 Secretary of State. The special Operation Iraqi Freedom plate
14 issued under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger
15 vehicles of the first division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles
16 of the second division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds.
17 Plates issued under this Section shall expire according to the
18 staggered multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1
19 of this Code.
20     (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
21 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
22 Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be
23 issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with

1 Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
2 designate "Land Of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
3 Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the
4 eligibility requirements and, in his or her discretion, shall
5 approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
6 Section 3-412.
7     (c) An applicant shall be charged a $15 fee for original
8 issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. This
9 additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State
10 Special License Plate Fund.
