SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
110 ILCS 330/7 new
210 ILCS 85/6.22 new

    Amends the University of Illinois Hospital Act and the Hospital Licensing Act. Provides that every hospital subject to either of the Acts must screen all patients for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in accordance with guidelines published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Provides that if a patient tests positive for MRSA, the hospital must so inform the patient and offer treatment to the patient. Requires hospitals to report all cases of MRSA to the Department of Public Health in the form and manner prescribed by the Department in rules.

1     AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The University of Illinois Hospital Act is
5 amended by adding Section 7 as follows:
 
6     (110 ILCS 330/7 new)
7     Sec. 7. Screening patients for MRSA. The University of
8 Illinois Hospital shall screen all patients for
9 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in
10 accordance with guidelines published by the Centers for Disease
11 Control and Prevention. If a patient tests positive for MRSA,
12 the hospital must so inform the patient and offer treatment to
13 the patient. The hospital shall report all cases of MRSA to the
14 Department of Public Health in the form and manner prescribed
15 by the Department in rules.
 
16     Section 10. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by adding
17 Section 6.22 as follows:
 
18     (210 ILCS 85/6.22 new)
19     Sec. 6.22. Screening patients for MRSA. Every hospital
