SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-712 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that any person who, for the purpose of obtaining or renewing a military special license plate, falsely and knowingly claims either to have been awarded a military decoration or to be on active duty in the United States Armed Forces or a military veteran is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor and shall, in addition to any other penalty, be fined not less than $1,000.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-712 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-712 new)
7     Sec. 3-712. Fraudulent application for military special
8 plates. Any person who, for the purpose of obtaining or
9 renewing a special license plate designating military
10 decorations, military service, or status as a military veteran,
11 claims (i) to have been awarded a military decoration, knowing
12 that he or she has not been awarded that decoration, or (ii) to
13 be on active duty in the United States Armed Forces or a
14 military veteran, knowing that he or she does not have the
15 status required for the registration for which he or she has
16 applied, is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor and shall, in
17 addition to any other penalty, be fined not less than $1,000.
