HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with great sadness of the death in
4 Iraq of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Torrey Stoffel-Gray of
5 Patoka on Sunday, April 11, 2004; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Stoffel-Gray was born on December
7 17, 1984, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Jerry and Mary Henson
8 Stoffel; he lived his life in Patoka and Salem; he attended
9 Patoka High School and after graduation, he attended the
10 Lincoln Challenge Military Academy in Rantoul; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Stoffel-Gray enlisted in the
12 United States Marine Corps in 2002 and had his initial training
13 at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California; he
14 was serving in Fallujah, Iraq, as a rifleman with the Second
15 Platoon, Third Company, Fourth Marine Regiment, Lima Company;
16 he was awarded a Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit
17 Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service
18 Deployment Ribbon, and a Purple Heart; he was a member of the
19 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2055 of Centralia, American
20 Legion Post 463 of Centralia, and American Legion Post 543 in
21 Patoka; and
 
22     WHEREAS, The passing of Lance Corporal Torrey Stoffel-Gray
23 has been deeply felt by many, especially his parents, Jerry and
24 Mary Stoffel; his brothers, Brandon Stoffel-Gray, Russell
25 Stoffel, and Blake Stoffel; his fiancee, Kari Atchison; his
26 grandparents, Martha Stoffel and Robert and Linda Gray; his
27 great-grandmother, Marion Patterson; and his uncles and aunts,
28 Jeff and Elizabeth Stoffel, Rebecca and Duane Veal, Shiela and
29 Rick Plemons, Betty Haley, Sarah and Bruce Duncan, and Judy and
30 Dwayne Greene; therefore, be it
 
31     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2 mourn the passing of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Torrey
3 Stoffel-Gray, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family,
4 friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Corporal Torrey
6 Stoffel-Gray and his willingness to serve our country, which
7 led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the family of Lance Corporal Torrey Stoffel-Gray
10 as an expression of our sincerest condolences during their time
11 of bereavement.
