 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State  of  Illinois  learned with regret of the death of
 4    Army Pfc. Adam Thomas on August 31, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, Army Pfc. Thomas was one  of  two  Army  snipers
 6    killed  during  an  intense  90  minute  gun  battle near the
 7    Pakistani border; and

 8        WHEREAS, Army Pfc. Thomas joined the Army in August  2001
 9    and was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort
10    Drum; he had served in Afghanistan in 2002 and returned after
11    his orders came in June 2003; and

12        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Thomas lived in the south suburbs until he
13    was 15 years old; he attended  Stagg  High  School  in  Palos
14    Hills  before  he  moved  to  La  Plata, Missouri in 1997; he
15    graduated from La Plata High School in 2000 where he  was  an
16    all-star baseball player; and

17        WHEREAS,  The  passing  of Army Pfc. Adam Thomas has been
18    deeply felt by all who knew and  loved  him,  especially  his
19    mother,  Ellen  DeGolyer  Thomas,  his father and stepmother,
20    Jeff Thomas and Cindy Thomas; a brother; two sisters; a  half
21    brother;   a   stepbrother;   a   stepsister;   his  maternal
22    grandmother; and his paternal grandparents; therefore, be it

23        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
24    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25    we mourn the passing of Army Pfc. Adam Thomas,  who  will  be
26    remembered  as  a  hero  of the United States Army; and be it
27    further

28        RESOLVED, That we honor the  memory  of  Army  Pfc.  Adam
29    Thomas  and  his  willingness to serve our great nation which
30    led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

 1        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 2    presented  to  the  family  of  Army  Pfc.  Adam Thomas as an
 3    expression of our  deepest  sympathy  during  their  time  of
 4    bereavement.
