2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Michael G. "Mike" Nickols, who passed |
4 | | away on March 7, 2024; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Mike Nickols was born to G. Allen Nickols and |
6 | | Iris (Seay) Wesley in Charlottesville, Virginia on September |
7 | | 21, 1979; he spent the majority of his life in Springfield, |
8 | | Illinois; he graduated from Lutheran High School in 1997, |
9 | | where he distinguished himself as a varsity soccer player; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Mike Nickols served as an accountant at the |
11 | | Illinois State Comptroller's Office for more than 14 years, |
12 | | and he also dedicated his time as a union steward; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Mike Nickols generously contributed to multiple |
14 | | charities and eagerly anticipated sponsoring and attending |
15 | | local charity golf events each summer with his friends and |
16 | | stepfather; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Mike Nickols was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis |
18 | | Cardinals, and he became a Pittsburgh Steelers fan after the |
19 | | Rams left St. Louis; he enjoyed playing in numerous softball, |
20 | | darts, golf, soccer, and fantasy sports leagues; while |
21 | | vacationing, he preferred fishing, binge-watching comedies, |

1 | | and cooking out for his family and friends on the deck; his |
2 | | greatest joy in life was spending time with his sons and |
3 | | grandsons; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Mike Nickols was known for his innate gift of |
5 | | conversation and his unparalleled ability to connect with and |
6 | | unite people, infusing warmth and laughter into every |
7 | | gathering and incorporating his unique blend of music, humor, |
8 | | and dance into any situation, often in his signature quirky |
9 | | attire; he will be remembered for his vibrant spirit and the |
10 | | indelible mark he left on the hearts of many; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Mike Nickols is survived by his wife, Lorelei |
12 | | (Frost) Nickols; his mother, Iris (Seay) Wesley; his father, |
13 | | G. Allen (Maureen) Nickols; his stepfather, Robert (Deborah) |
14 | | Wesley; his siblings, Christopher (Amanda) Nickols, Jennifer |
15 | | Nickols, Matt Nickols, and Katy (Blake) Montgomery; his |
16 | | children, Ian (Sharon) Nickols, Owen Nickols, and Brady |
17 | | Nickols; his grandchildren, Sammy and Israel; and many nieces |
18 | | and nephews; therefore, be it |
19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
21 | | Michael G. "Mike" Nickols and extend our sincere condolences |
22 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
