SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Mary Babich of Joliet, who passed away
4on March 20, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Babich was born on March 6, 1944; she was a
6lifelong resident of Joliet; she was raised on Meeker Avenue,
7where her family ran a local grocery store and produced and
8sold Cresto Sausage; she was a graduate of Lincoln Grade
9School, Joliet Township Central High School, and Joliet Junior
10College, where she was a cheerleader; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mary Babich worked as a service representative
12for Illinois Bell Telephone in Lockport for 28 years, where
13she was often recognized as a top sales person; post
14retirement, she provided administrative support at the Caneva
15Foot Clinic and the offices of Dr. Gutierrez, Penaherrera &
16Gurfinkle - Internal Medicine; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mary Babich was a dedicated member of St.
18Joseph's & St. Mary's Nativity Parishes, and she belonged to
19St. Joseph's Church Altar & Rosary Society and its Senior
20Citizens Association; she was active in many clubs and
21organizations, including serving on the Rialto Board for 18
22years, as a past president and member of the Cantigny 367 VFW

1Ladies Auxiliary, as a guild member and an active fundraiser
2of Lightways Hospice for over 20 years, and as a member of the
3Our Lady of Angels Auxiliary, the Italian American Club, the
4Moran Club, KSKJ, the Elks Club, the Moose Club, and the Red
5Hats Club;
 
6    WHEREAS, Mary Babich was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs,
7the Chicago Bears, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Golden
8State Warriors; she was an avid shopper and deal seeker; she
9enjoyed eating lunch at Al's Steakhouse with her best friends,
10Rose and Sally, and collecting rosaries and angels; she loved
11traveling, including weekend getaways to St. Joseph, Michigan,
12annual trips to Florida, where she visited family in Sarasota
13and Disney World with her grandchildren, and international
14trips to Italy and Slovenia; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Mary Babich was known for always looking
16well-dressed, pairing classy outfits with coordinating
17scarves; she was a proud supporter of her family and their
18accomplishments and a generous and loyal friend; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mary Babich was preceded in death by her parents,
20Frank and Angeline Cresto; her parents-in-law, Joseph and
21Helen Babich; her sister, Joanne (Donald) Legerski; her
22brother, Ronald Cresto; her sister-in-law, Jeanette Tucci; her
23brother-in-law, Bob Babich; and other extended family; and

1    WHEREAS, Mary Babich is survived by her husband of 55
2years, Joseph Babich; her daughters, Kelli Babich and Lisa
3(Dimitri) Karnezis; her grandchildren, Olivia and Joseph
4Karnezis; her sister-in-law, Margie Cresto; her
5brother-in-law, Rich Tucci; and her nieces, nephews, extended
6family, and friends; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Mary Babich and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
10friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Mary Babich as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
