2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | ||||||
3 | recognize Dave Rydell for his business and civic leadership, | ||||||
4 | his charitable generosity, his abiding respect for others, and | ||||||
5 | his decades-long dedication to the betterment of his | ||||||
6 | community; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Dave Rydell serves as chairman of Bergstrom Inc., | ||||||
8 | a designer and builder of climate systems for the commercial | ||||||
9 | vehicle industry, which was founded in 1949 and will be | ||||||
10 | celebrating its 75th anniversary on June 22, 2024; currently, | ||||||
11 | the company employs over 1,500 people globally, and additional | ||||||
12 | locations include Wales, Spain, China, and Mexico; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Dave Rydell's business strategy has always | ||||||
14 | revolved around employment in Rockford; expanding the company | ||||||
15 | globally has secured, sustained, and expanded employment | ||||||
16 | opportunities locally; a code of conduct, which all employees | ||||||
17 | are expected to follow, includes treating everyone with | ||||||
18 | respect, honesty, dignity, and courtesy; employees maintain | ||||||
19 | Bergstrom's integrity and reputation through behavior that is | ||||||
20 | performance-driven, professional, and ethical; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Dave Rydell has served on many community boards | ||||||
22 | and continues to do so; he currently serves on the boards for |

1 | SwedishAmerican Hospital (past board chair), the Salvation | ||||||
2 | Army, the Golden Apple Foundation, and the University of | ||||||
3 | Illinois College of Medicine Dean's Action Committee; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Dave Rydell previously served on the boards of | ||||||
5 | Rockford University (chair), the Transform Rockford Steering | ||||||
6 | Committee, the Rockford Rescue Mission, Lutheran Social | ||||||
7 | Services of Illinois, U.S. Bank, the United Way of Rock River | ||||||
8 | Valley (2005 campaign chair), the Center for Sight and Hearing | ||||||
9 | (past board chair), the Rockford YMCA, the Midway Village and | ||||||
10 | Museum Center, the Nicholas Conservatory Steering Committee, | ||||||
11 | and Friends of the Coronado; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dave Rydell has received numerous recognitions, | ||||||
13 | including the 2004 Betty Henry Award, the 2005 Excalibur | ||||||
14 | Award, the 2008 Rockford Business Hall of Fame Award, the 2016 | ||||||
15 | Rockford Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award, and | ||||||
16 | the 2018 Lincoln Laureate Award; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Dave Rydell has supported many events, including | ||||||
18 | Stars & Stripes - A Salute to Our Veterans, A Night of | ||||||
19 | Appreciation for the Rockford Fire Department, and the | ||||||
20 | Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Dave Rydell founded the Bergstrom Inc. Charitable | ||||||
22 | Foundation in 1967, which has provided much needed support for |

1 | organizations in the Rockford region, including | ||||||
2 | not-for-profits, healthcare, the arts, and education; | ||||||
3 | therefore, be it | ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Dave | ||||||
6 | Rydell on his commitment to his community; and be it further | ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to Dave Rydell as a symbol of our respect and esteem. |
