SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Norman N. Neely of Silvis, who passed
4away on October 4, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Norman Neely was born in Stahl, Missouri to
6Everett and H. Grace Clifton Neely on January 14, 1931; he
7graduated from Adair County High School in Novinger, Missouri;
8he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; he married
9Frances "Jean" Griffith in Silvis on July 26, 1953; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Norman Neely worked for the railroad from 1949 to
111967; he then worked for Rock Island County as a zoning and
12building administrator, retiring in 1993; after retirement, he
13worked for FEMA for 13 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Norman Neely was a member of Silvis United
15Methodist Church, where he was active in the men's group; he
16was a Carbon Cliff-Barstow school board member for several
17years, a member of the Silvis Seniors, a member of the Korean
18War Vets, and a lifelong member of the East Moline VFW; he
19served as secretary for the Illinois Korean War Veteran's
20Association; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Norman Neely enjoyed carpentry and woodworking,

1cooking, wine making, his horses, gardening, and fishing;
2after retirement he enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas;
3he was a great storyteller and loved singing to his children
4and grandchildren; he also enjoyed plowing snow in the winter;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Norman Neely was preceded in death by his wife,
7Jean; two brothers; and five sisters; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Norman Neely is survived by his children, Joann
9E. (Lynn) Woodard, Norma J. Neely (Steve Brown), Katherine
10(Byron) Wetzel, and Norman B. (Wendy) Neely; his
11grandchildren, Hannah Woodard (David Cross), Nikki Woodard
12(Devin Winegardner), Cherise Wetzel, Amie Jean Wetzel, Jarret
13Wetzel, Chelsea (Chase) Geigle, and Megan Neely; his
14great-grandchildren, Layla Cserepes, Tate Burrow, Tucker
15Burrow, Ruth Frances Neely, Rowan Geigle, and Cecilia Geigle;
16his sister, Imogene Bell; and several nieces and nephews;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Norman N. Neely and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
