SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of former Illinois State Senator Gary
4Glenn Dahl of Peru, who passed away on October 1, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl was born in Lake Mills, Iowa to Glenn
6and Evelyn (Hanson) Dahl on December 5, 1940; he spent his
7younger years enjoying life on the farm with his four sisters
8and brother; he served his country in the United States Army
9from 1958 to 1962 as a helicopter mechanic; he married Deb on
10October 12, 2002; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl was a truck driver and founded his own
12small business in 1985, the Double D Express; he grew the
13business from three trucks and drivers to 100 trucks, 350
14trailers, and 200 employees; he treasured the friendships he
15made in the transportation world; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl retired from the trucking industry and
17decided to run for Illinois State Senate in the 38th District,
18hoping to make a difference for the people in his district; he
19spent his time in Springfield being a voice for the people;
20during session, he lived in a recreational vehicle and donated
21his salary to charity; and

1    WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl resigned from the Illinois State Senate
2in 2010 to spend more time with his family; he was a
3philanthropist and contributed to numerous charities in his
4community for many years; he was known for his integrity,
5sincerity, loving heart, and kind soul; he was the rock of his
6family and a loyal friend and trusted teacher; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl was preceded in death by his daughter,
8Teresa Dahl-Taylor; his parents; his sisters, DeLoris Hanna,
9Darlene Madson, and Carol Christenson; and his brother, George
10Dahl; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl is survived by his wife, Deb; his
12children, Kimberley Dahl, Ronald (Angela) Dahl, Sherry
13Wilkinson, and Deborah Dahl; his stepchildren, Jeremy (April)
14McIntosh and Samantha (Chris) Reum; his sister, Dorothy Gesme;
1516 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three
16great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19former Illinois State Senator Gary Glenn Dahl and extend our
20sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
21and loved him; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
