SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Robert William Carlson, who passed
4away on June 16, 2022 at the age of 89; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson was born on September 26, 1932 in
6Chicago, the eldest child of Dorothy and William Carlson; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson was a member of the Boy Scouts of
8America, earning his Eagle Scout Badge; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson graduated from Chicago Christian
10High School and Carleton College and served as a U.S. naval
11aviator, stationed in Iwakuni, Japan, as a lieutenant; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson, upon his return, began his
13business career in management consulting and became the chief
14financial officer at Bronson and Bratton, a manufacturing
15company in Burr Ridge; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson and his wife Barbara (Koch) were
17married in 1961 and lived in Oak Park and River Forest for the
18next 60 years; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson was an active member of Grace

1Lutheran Church in River Forest, where he served in numerous
2lay leadership positions; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson was on the board of the SAFER
4Foundation and was actively involved in Bible studies and
5tutoring with inmates at Cook County Jail; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson was a lifelong runner and enjoyed
7playing ice hockey, baseball, and tennis well into his later
8years; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson always cheered for the Chicago
10Cubs and Blackhawks; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson was introduced to the Japanese
12language and culture during his time in the Navy, and they
13remained an essential part of his life as did the many Japanese
14friends he met throughout his lifetime; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson and his wife loved to entertain
16and opened their home to visitors from abroad, hosting their
17stay for months to travel or study; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson loved the simple things in life,
19including his famous relish and cookie smashes; and

1    WHEREAS, Robert Carlson was preceded in death by his son,
2Brad, who died in infancy; and
 
3    WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Robert Carlson was
4survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons, Bob Jr., Bill, and
5Brian; his grandchildren, Ryan, Bradley, Will, and Nick (Bob
6Jr. and Gayle), Micah and Anaka (Bill and Konni), and Kiernan
7and Charlie (Brain and Sarah); his sisters, Louise C.
8Sinclaire and Jane Carlson; and his brother, Genichi Nagao;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Robert Carlson and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Robert Carlson as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
