HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rockford
4Alderman Linda McNeely, who passed away on April 24, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was born in Rockford to John and
6Juanita McNeely on September 16, 1955; she graduated from
7Auburn High School and received her associate's degree from
8Wilbur Wright College; she received her bachelor's degree in
9government from the University of Denver and her master's
10degree in business from Roosevelt University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was self-employed as a tax preparer
12and dedicated more than a quarter of a century to public
13service; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was first elected as an alderman
15for the City of Rockford in 1997 and continued to serve until
16her passing; she dedicated 26 years of her life to serving her
17community as an alderman; she was also elected as a 16th
18Congressional District State Central Committeewoman in 2002,
192006, and 2010; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was a kind and compassionate person
21as well as a strong advocate for her ward; she was never afraid

1to voice dissent, provide perspective, and argue for what she
2believed was right; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Linda McNeely was preceded in death by her
4parents; her sisters, Anna Marie Pickett and Marie Hudson; and
5her brother, Leon McNeely; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Linda McNeely is survived by her nephews, Andrew
7McNeely, who she loved like a brother, Lamont Hudson, Pierre
8McNeely, Christopher Pickett, Hassan (Carla) Muhammad, and
9Lawrence (Stephanie) Pickett; her niece, Lophina Thompson; and
10numerous other relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we mourn the passing of Rockford Alderman Linda McNeely and
14extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
15who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Linda McNeely as an expression of
18our deepest sympathies.
