HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Danielle Cary of
4Collinsville on her recent accomplishments, including her
5outstanding devotion to personal development and helping
6others; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Danielle Cary is currently a sophomore at
8Collinsville High School; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Danielle Cary recently received the Congressional
10Award Gold Medal, the highest level of congressional
11recognition available to civilian youth that requires
12participants to demonstrate a commitment to their personal
13growth and community development; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Danielle Cary registered for the Congressional
15Award program in October of 2020, taking on the tremendous
16responsibility to intentionally better herself and the lives
17of those around her at age 13 and a half, the youngest that a
18student can register for the program; her dedication to
19completing the program was made only more impressive given the
20widespread uncertainty caused by the early months of the
21COVID-19 pandemic; and

1    WHEREAS, To earn the Congressional Award Gold Medal,
2Danielle Cary actively participated in the program for a
3minimum 24 months, during which she completed a minimum 400
4hours of voluntary public service, logged a minimum 200 hours
5of physical fitness, and completed a five-day expedition; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Through the Congressional Award program, Danielle
7Cary took the opportunity to engage in many different personal
8interests and community needs, including teaching herself how
9to play the ukulele, completing scuba diving certification,
10earning her second degree black belt in taekwondo, and
11volunteering with the Caseyville Public Library, the Disabled
12American Veterans (DAV), and the Girl Scouts; and
 
13    WHEREAS, For the five-day expedition requirement, Danielle
14Cary embraced the chance to explore environments and cultures
15vastly different from those she knew in Illinois by visiting
16the Caribbean nation of Curaçao; while there, she pursued
17hiking and scuba diving to familiarize herself with the
18landscape, history, and culture of the island and its people;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Danielle Cary was also recently named a Gold
21Award Girl Scout after successfully completing the Girl
22Scouts' Gold Award program through partnering with a local
23hospital and library to offer new sensory activities for

1pediatric therapy patients and sensory-friendly events for
2Collinsville residents; she previously completed the tasks
3necessary to be named a Bronze Award Girl Scout in 2012 and a
4Silver Award Girl Scout in 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Danielle Cary has maintained her commitment to
6serving her community while still actively participating in
7school activities through involvement in multiple clubs and
8sports teams as well as excelling academically; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Danielle Cary is a true public servant, and she
10continues to serve her community through various projects in
11pursuit of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, which
12requires that she complete an additional 100 service hours;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we recognize Danielle Cary on her recent accomplishments,
17thank her for her dedication to public service and the people
18of Illinois, and wish her success in her future endeavors; and
19be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Danielle Cary as an expression of our esteem and
22respect.
