SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Rev. Peggie D. Senor of Springfield, who
4passed away on October 17, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rev. Senor was born in Springfield to George and
6Virginia Neal on February 3, 1934; she graduated from Feitshans
7High School in Springfield in 1950 and married Clarence Lester
8Senor on January 2, 1951; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rev. Senor was a stay-at-home mom with seven
10children and worked for Scott Catering, serving at parties; she
11was a data entry operator at Stat Tab and was then employed by
12Security Federal, retiring after 27 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rev. Senor's community involvement included many
14PTOs, the Washington Street Mission, the Lincoln Library Board,
15and serving as Chaplain at the Sangamon County Juvenile
16Detention Center; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Rev. Senor was a member of St. John African
18Methodist Episcopal Church; she served as Superintendent of
19Sunday School at St. John A.M.E. Church; she became an ordained
20Local Elder in the A.M.E. Church, served as pastor of Allen
21Chapel A.M.E. Church in Lincoln, and taught Wednesday noon

1Bible study at St. John A.M.E. and Monday night Bible study;
2she started the Sunday 8am worship service; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Rev. Senor had a passion for creating poetry, art,
4and paper dolls; in her later years, she would create a
5computer-generated card for each child, grandchild, and
6great-grandchild, which included one of her special personally
7written poems; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Rev. Senor was affectionately known as Rev.
9Peggie, Big Peggie, Grandma, and Mama; her front porch and
10dining rooms were special places for her large family and
11friends; often in the 1960s, she and other neighborhood
12families could be seen roller skating at Iles School Gym on
13Monday evenings in the summers; she was a Falcon Drum and Bugle
14Corps Mom, sewing, cooking, and preparing for competition; her
15favorite passion was finding treasures at Goodwill and The
16Salvation Army; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Rev. Senor was preceded in death by her husband of
1859 years, Clarence, and her sister, Eleanor Chandler; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rev. Senor is survived by her children, Deborah
20(Dave) Burns, L. Kevin (Linda) Senor, Candice (John) Trees, C.
21Neal Senor, Patricia (Donald) Carter, Herman (Valeria) Senor,
22and Mark Senor; her step-daughter, Mary E. (Freddie, deceased)

1Nunn; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; numerous
2nieces, nephews, and cousins; her sister-in-law, Betty Lou
3Work; and her special friend, Retired Presiding Elder Sammy
4Hooks; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Rev. Peggie D. Senor and extend our sincere condolences to her
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Rev. Senor as an expression of our
12deepest sympathy.
