SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Judith A. Lamping Jolie, who passed away
4on November 20, 2018 at the age of 76; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Judith Jolie was born on September 13, 1942; she
6graduated from St. Scholastica High School in Chicago in 1960;
7in 1964, she graduated from Rosary College in River Forest; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Judith Jolie served with the international
9humanitarian agency Catholic Relief Services in South America;
10she then returned to Oak Park, where she worked as a preschool
11and kindergarten teacher at Pilgrim Nursery School and on
12Chicago's West Side for over 30 years; she loved to read Stone
13Soup and Make Way for Ducklings to children and was known as a
14"baby whisperer" whose smile and wit could light up any room;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Judith Jolie and her husband, Thomas, lived in the
17same house in Oak Park for over 50 years; she made friends feel
18like family, organized block parties that made Christmas the
19"second-best day of the year," hosted well-stocked water
20balloon fights, and knew every kid's nickname; she spread joy
21through her endless conversations with passersby; and

1    WHEREAS, Judith Jolie was friends with three generations of
2Oak Park neighbors, who recall her commitment to social justice
3and educational equality; she was an intuitive cook and shared
4her love of tradition by making Christmas Eve cream of mushroom
5and French onion soup in Nonny's pot; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Judith Jolie was the wife of Thomas, the mother of
7Sarah, Charles (Liz Keating), and Angela (Daniel Morillo)
8Jolie, the grandmother of Sarah, Kate, and Grace Jolie and
9Sofia and Joaquin Morillo, the special grandma of Elanor and
10Otto Huber, the sister of Barbara and Mary Jo Lamping, Betsy
11(the late James) Sklena, and her late twin brother, James
12Lamping, and the cousin, aunt, and great-aunt of many;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Judith A. Lamping Jolie and extend our sincere condolences to
17her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Judith Jolie as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
