|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Gary T. Del Re of Mundelein, who passed |
4 | | away on October 28, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was born in Chicago, the second of |
6 | | three sons, to Ken and Dolores (Deutsch) Del Re on August 26, |
7 | | 1949; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was a career first responder and rose |
9 | | from patrolman to the rank of Commander with the Village of |
10 | | Buffalo Grove Police Department; he was later appointed and |
11 | | elected Sheriff of Lake County in 1998 and again in 2002; he |
12 | | was an innovative law enforcement officer and served as the |
13 | | founding Commander of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, |
14 | | which was created in 1992 and continues to solve high-profile |
15 | | crimes; during this time, he also earned his bachelor's degree |
16 | | and master's degree and taught at the Northwestern University |
17 | | Center for Public Safety; he served the residents of northern |
18 | | Cook and Lake Counties for over 30 years; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was known for his humor and his |
20 | | encyclopedic knowledge of the Civil War, American presidents, |
21 | | the political process, and Abraham Lincoln; he was a voracious |
22 | | reader and would retell history with an intimate detail that |

1 | | kept even his youngest grandchild captivated; most of all, he |
2 | | was humble, kind, and gracious; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Gary Del Re was preceded in death by his father, |
4 | | Kenneth and his wife Sandra; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gary Del Re is survived by his mother, Dolores; |
6 | | his brothers, Ken (Jessica) and Phillip (Susan); his sons, Gary |
7 | | Jr. and David (Jordan); his grandchildren, Hunter, Tyler, |
8 | | Colsen, and Sheridan; his loving family, Hank Dybal and Wray |
9 | | (Dawn) Dybal and children, Amanda and Zachary; his nieces and |
10 | | nephews, Angel, Amy, David, Jonathan, Sarah, and Joseph; his |
11 | | best friend, Amy; and his dachshund, Brutus; therefore, be it
|
12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
14 | | Gary T. Del Re and extend our sincere condolences to his |
15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
16 | | further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Gary Del Re as an expression of our |
19 | | deepest sympathy.
