SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Thomas D. "Tom" Cooney of Woodstock, who
4passed away on February 10, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tom Cooney was born in Woodstock to Herbert T. and
6Mary E. (Hurley) Cooney on July 6, 1923; he served in the U.S.
7Army Air Corp during World War II and married Irene S. Shereda
8in Woodstock on May 26, 1951; he married Jane Conerty on
9February 6, 1997; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Tom Cooney returned to Woodstock where he worked
11in finance for several organizations; he joined McHenry County
12Title Company/Chicago Title in 1959, where he worked in several
13capacities until being elected president in 1979; he retired in
141986; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Tom Cooney volunteered with many organizations;
16he was a past president of the Easter Seal Society of McHenry
17County; he served on the St. Mary School Board and coached
18basketball for St. Mary School for 10 years; he donated his
19time to the Woodstock Food Pantry, Food For The Poor, PADS, and
20was a strong advocate for the Right To Life; he was a life
21member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a member and past
22Grand Knight of the Woodstock Knights of Columbus; he was an

1avid golfer and enjoyed spending the winter months in Green
2Valley, Arizona; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Tom Cooney was preceded in death by his parents;
4his first wife, Irene Cooney; his brothers, Judge James H.
5(Karlen) Cooney, Leo F. (Jean) Cooney, and Donald J. (Beatrice)
6Cooney; his grandson, Timmy Nelson; and Clare Conerty and Mark
7Conerty; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Tom Cooney is survived by his wife, Jane Cooney;
9his children, Megan (Robert) Nelson and David Cooney; his
10grandchildren, Tommy (Kayln) and Christina (Fanio) Nelson; his
11great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Andrew, Elizabeth, Noah, and Nya;
12his Conerty family, Mary (Al) Stilling, Patricia (Terry)
13Clarke, John (Kate) Conerty, Marty Conerty, and their children
14and grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Mary Shereda; and
15numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Thomas D. "Tom" Cooney, and extend our sincere condolences to
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
