SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Fitzallen Moore, who passed away on
4January 31, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Moore was born in London, England to American
6poets, Louis Untermeyer and Virginia Moore on February 23,
71928; he was born John Moore Untermeyer and was renamed after
8his parents divorced; he grew up in Italy, Spain, Switzerland,
9and at his mother's home in Scottsville, Virginia; he was
10educated at the High Mowing School in New Hampshire, the
11Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he co-founded the
12Tech Model Railroad Club, and Harvard University; he earned his
13Ph.D. in Physics from Columbia University, with a thesis
14proving the greenhouse effect of carbon dioxide on the surface
15temperature of the planet Venus; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Work in the field of medical electronics and x-ray
17products led to John Moore founding Bio-Imaging Research, Inc.
18(BIR) in Lincolnshire in 1980; among many other technologies,
19BIR devised improvements for computed tomography (CAT)
20scanners; he retired as Chairman of the Board and CEO of BIR in
212007; and
 
22    WHEREAS, John Moore held over 20 patents; he was named KPMG

1Peat Marwich High Tech Entrepreneur of the Year in 1987; he
2also received the Arthur Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award
3in 1989; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Moore served as member and Chairman of the
5Naval Surface Weapons Board of the U.S. Naval Research Advisory
6Committee for several years; he was also a member of the
7scientific honor society Sigma Xi; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Moore's retirement was filled with a
9continued enthusiasm for family, hobbies, and international
10travel; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Moore was preceded in death by his daughter,
12Deborah, and his son, Robin; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Moore is survived by his wife, Betty-Ann; his
14children, Laurel (Michael White) Moore, Marjorie (John) Fish,
15Sheila (James) Kaplan, Christopher (Tracy Conrad) Moore, and
16Jonathan Moore; his 12 grandchildren; his eight
17great-grandchildren; his brother, Laurence Untermeyer; his
18sister-in-law, Jean Jorgenson; and his nieces and nephews;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1John Fitzallen Moore and extend our sincere condolences to his
2family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of John Moore as an expression of our
