SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois recognizes the need for the
3cleanliness of Illinois waterways for public safety, public
4recreation, economic benefit, and historical character,
5whether a large or small body of water, whether rural, urban,
6or suburban in location; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The third Saturday of September is established
8globally as "International Coastal Cleanup Day", coordinated
9by the Ocean Conservancy and promoted by various like-minded
10Illinois partner organizations; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The coalition of Illinois Global Scholar
12stakeholders acts for the benefit of Illinois students and
13works to promote Public Act 099-0780; it partners with
14organizations to ensure the protection, restoration, and
15health of Illinois waterways; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Service learning promotes effective student
17growth opportunities; a statewide coordinated day of action
18facilitates active citizen engagement, and offers a particular
19opportunity for active student engagement in effective
20environmental improvement through trash collection, data
21collection, and data analysis; and

1    WHEREAS, To coordinate with the International Coastal
2Cleanup Day effort, partner organizations and schools across
3Illinois will facilitate the opportunity for Illinois student
4participant groups to partner with other student participant
5groups in different countries, providing Illinois students
6with the opportunity to communicate and collaborate globally,
7discussing and sharing their efforts and findings; therefore,
8be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
11CONCURRING HEREIN, that we declare September 9-15, 2018 as
12"Illinois Waterway Cleanup Week" in the State of Illinois.
