HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives have learned a significant era of Chicago
4broadcast journalism is about to sign off for a final time; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Viewers of WTTW-TV's Chicago Tonight: The Week in
6Review have gained a glimpse into the insights of many of
7Chicago's premier journalists over nearly 2,000 broadcasts;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, The program's self-described "traffic cop" for
10this 40-year endeavor was the always animated moderator Joel
11Weisman, a quick wit who acquired his skills as reporter,
12editor, and commentator at the City News Bureau, the Gary Post
13Tribune, the Chicago American, the Chicago Sun-Times, the
14Washington Post, and WGN-TV; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Joel Weisman's
16journalistic excellence was recognized with multiple awards,
17including Emmys, Peter Lisagor awards, Jacob Sher awards, and
18Associated Press awards; he was twice nominated for Pulitzer
19Prizes for his investigative reporting; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Joel Weisman has developed a well-regarded
21practice of ensuring his four person panels always represented

1all regions and communities of WTTW's broadcast market and all
2shapes and sizes of media outlets; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5join in the January 19, 2018 salute to work of Joel Weisman on
6the occasion of his final broadcast as host of Chicago Tonight:
7The Week in Review; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That we recognize the program's 40th anniversary
9and offer best wishes for continued success and acknowledge
10Illinois is a better place because of these efforts; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Joel Weisman and the leadership of WTTW-TV.
